The Lyone Foundation recently made a heartfelt donation of $30,000 to the specialist cancer hospital Chris O’Brien Lifehouse in Sydney. This contribution holds deep personal significance as it was made in honour of Peter Cameron, a dear friend of the Foundation's founders, Dominique and Mara Lyone.
Peter was diagnosed with an advanced, aggressive form of cancer and was given just 6 weeks to live. However, thanks to the exceptional care provided by the dedicated team at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Cancer Hospital, Peter’s life was extended by 14 valuable months, offering precious time for him and his family. This period, filled with dignity and comfort, allowed Peter to continue making memories with his loved ones—memories that his children, Aria and Rio, will carry with them forever.
The donation from the Lyone Foundation will support three critical areas within the hospital: the Access of Equity fund, which ensures that all patients receive the care they need regardless of their financial situation; the training of specialist nurses, who play an indispensable role in patient care; and patient support services, which provide comfort and dignity to those undergoing treatment.
Gail O’Brien, the wife of the hospital’s founder, and the medical staff expressed their profound gratitude for the donation, acknowledging the impact it will have on countless families facing the challenges of cancer. The gesture was especially moving for Peter’s family, who felt that he would be immensely proud of the contribution made in his name.
As a privately funded institution, Chris O’Brien Lifehouse relies on the generosity of donors like the Lyone Foundation to continue offering world-class care to patients from all walks of life. This donation not only honours Peter’s legacy but also extends hope and support to others in need, embodying the spirit of compassion and community that the Lyone Foundation stands for.
The Lyone Foundation is proud to be part of this journey, helping to provide the care and support that made such a difference in Peter’s life and will continue to do so for many others.
