Dominique Lyone
"To me and my family, giving back is a big part of everything we are doing today. When we first came to Australia we needed a lot of help and if it wasn’t for charities like St. Vincent De Paul, we would definitely not be here today."
About Our Founder
The Lyone Foundation was built on the values of generosity, resilience, and community principles that defined the life of its founder, the late Dominique Lyone. His journey was one of perseverance and an unwavering commitment to giving back.
Dominique’s story began in 1967, when he and his family immigrated to Australia following the Six-Day War. At just 13 years old, he arrived in a new country with little more than determination and a willingness to work hard. Those early years were marked by financial hardship, but it was the support of Australian charities that helped his family rebuild their lives. This generosity left a profound impact on Dominique, shaping his lifelong belief that businesses should be a force for good.
As he built his career and later founded Complete Office Supplies (COS) in 1977, Dominique never lost sight of his deep appreciation for the kindness his family had received. He made it his mission to pay it forward, ensuring that COS was not just a business, but a vehicle for positive change. His vision was clear — success should not be measured by profit alone, but by the ability to uplift those in need.
With this philosophy in mind, Dominique established the Lyone Foundation in 2013, dedicated to supporting underfunded and grassroots charities that directly impact the lives of vulnerable Australians. He personally set the guiding principles of the foundation: no wages drawn, no expenses covered for the family, and every dollar going to those who need it most. The foundation was to be a pure act of giving, led by the Lyone family and COS employees.
One of the most unique aspects of the Lyone Foundation is the involvement of COS staff. Dominique believed that philanthropy should be deeply personal, so each year, every COS branch is given a sum of money and empowered to select the charities they wish to support. This process is more than just a donation, it is a transformative experience, exposing employees to the incredible work being done in communities and reinforcing the true meaning of giving.
Dominique’s vision extended beyond financial support. He believed in fostering real connections with charities, ensuring that funds were used effectively and making an immediate impact. His passion for human welfare became the cornerstone of the foundation, reflecting the same generosity that helped his own family decades earlier.
Though Dominique sadly passed away in November 2024, his legacy continues through the Lyone Foundation, which remains committed to his mission of giving back. His daughters, Belinda and Amie Lyone, who have been instrumental in leading COS for over 20 years, continue to uphold his vision.
Today, COS has donated more than $20 million to the Lyone Foundation helping over 100 Australian charities and supporting projects to advance education, promote social welfare, and strengthen community development. Every contribution made is a testament to Dominique’s belief that businesses have a responsibility to uplift those in need and create a lasting impact.
His story is a reminder that kindness, determination, and a commitment to others can shape a better future, and that legacy lives on in every initiative supported by the Lyone Foundation.
