Big Brothers Big Sisters

Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community-based mentoring program that offers stability and consistency for young people in need of support through one-on-one mentoring. Each young person is matched to the most suitable mentor based on personality, shared interests, and geographic location.

Once a week, the mentor meets with the young person to spend time together partaking in activities, such as bike rides, cooking together, or participating in crafts or hobbies to help build a strong mentoring relationship. Through the mentor’s support and friendship, young people gain the ability to identify their aspirations and establish enduring connections with others.

Currently, Big Brothers Big Sisters have over 800 children and young people on the waiting list. They are referred to by a single parent, a grandmother, a close friend of the family and others. $23 will help pay for a screening check for a new mentor. The $9,000 funds from the Lyone Foundation will assist Big Brothers Big Sisters to be able to support more young people.
