At the Ark Inc helps families and individuals with trauma relating to child sexual abuse, and family and domestic violence. At the Ark believes that those dealing with the after-effects of child sexual abuse and domestic and family violence need to feel that there is a hope of life after abuse.

The project At the Ark is continuing supporting with the Lyone Foundation assistance, is the ‘Brave Little Bear’ book series program. This program helps with prevention rather than a cure. The Brave little Bear book series is a resource that equips children, adults, parents, grandparents, carers, psychologists and counsellors with ways to identify abuse, protect themselves and ways to respond to abuse. At the Ark would love to get a set of these books into every classroom in every school.  There are 3 books in this program:

  • Book one: Brave Little Bear- "Brave Little Bear" is the first book in an engaging 3-book series designed for children aged 3 to 7 years old. Through age-appropriate language and captivating illustrations, children learn to understand what is safe and what is not, as well as the important steps to take if abuse has occurred.
  • Book two: Brave Little Bear: “Too Big Not to Share " is the second book in the Brave Little Bear series, tailored for children aged 6 to 12 years old. This book delves deeper into the sensitive subject of self-protection. It covers crucial topics such as safe touch, recognising fear feelings, online safety, understanding the difference between secrets and surprises, the importance of code words, and body consent.
  • Book three: “Brave Little Bear’s Big Letter" is the third and final book in the Brave Little Bear series, designed as a heartfelt "Brave Big Letter" to the "safe bears" (adults) in children's lives. This book aims to help adults understand children better and equip them with effective prevention strategies and appropriate responses for those who have experienced trauma.

The set of 3 costs a total of $35. The $10,000 funds from the Lyone Foundation will assist At the Ark Inc to purchase around 285 book sets for schools.
