Beddown is a charity which provides safety, shelter, security and a proper rest for those who are currently homeless. The objective of Beddown is to take spaces that are commonly used during the day, but are left vacant at night, repurposing these spaces into pop-up accommodation. This ensures those who are sleeping rough are able to access a place to get a great night’s sleep. The average life expectancy of someone who is sleeping rough over a long-term period is only 47 years old, with many losing their lives to attacks, suicide, overdoses, infected wounds and pneumonia.
Beddown collaborates with other charitable organisations to provide complementary services such as laundry and showers, food and beverages, health and wellbeing, and new clothing. Funding of $10,000 from the Lyone Foundation provides up to 360 people accommodation for 18 nights.
