Big Brothers Big Sisters is a community-based mentoring program that offers stability and consistency for young people in need of support through one-on-one mentoring. Each young person is matched to the most suitable mentor based on personality, shared interests, and geographic location.
Once a week, the mentor meets with the young person to spend time together partaking in activities, such as bike rides, cooking together, or participating in crafts or hobbies to help build a strong mentoring relationship. Through the mentor’s support and friendship, young people gain the ability to identify their aspirations and establish enduring connections with others.
Big Brothers Big Sisters currently has over 800 children and young people on their waiting list, referred by single parents, grandparents, close family friends, and more. The $9,000 contribution from the Lyone Foundation will help Big Brothers Big Sisters in Melbourne cover screening checks for new mentors and provide essential resources, including activities, meals, and additional support for more Little Brothers and Sisters.
