Employing customised vehicles, Orange Sky provides a platform for disadvantaged Australians to connect through a regular roaming laundry and shower service. The focus is on creating a safe, positive and supportive environment for people who are too often ignored or who feel disconnected from the community. Volunteers are not social workers or experts on homelessness - they are empathetic listeners and great conversationalists.
The Lyone Foundation’s donation of $5,000 to the Darwin service means that Orange Sky's services remain available to the hundreds of people experiencing homelessness and disadvantage in the region. Funds are put towards things such as ongoing liaison with existing volunteers, implementing volunteer teams for each shift location, preparing training materials, sourcing cleaning supplies, personal protective equipment, signage and bollards, as well as risk and health and safety assessments of service locations to determine suitability for service provision.
